The Last Supper

Last night, a group of friends and I decided to go to La Spada, an infamous Florentine restaurant particularly friendly to GU students, and get take-out. We went and ate it on one of the bridges crossing the Arno River. The Ponte Vecchio, a famous gold market built atop one of the Arno bridges, was in front of us and the sun behind us. The bridges have these triangular pieces of cement on the other side of the barrier wall about 6 or so feet down. It’s a reknowned spot to watch the sunset and enjoy a bottle of wine or dinner with friends. It was beautiful. The weather has been in the 80’s with substantial humidity. Needless to say, sunset is a welcomed event.

Tomorrow is our last day of classes and when people begin to head out of Florence. Some have early flights home and others plans of traveling before returning to the states. As much as I miss home, it’s going to be difficult to say good-bye to this beautiful city that has been our home for the past 6 weeks. I guess it all hit me as we had dinner together last night and made our walk back to our pensiones. Everything comes to an end I guess and I have plans on making return trips to Italy, so I guess it’s not too difficult to say good-bye. We’ve had some incredible experiences here and created memories that I will find hard to forget.
